St. John to BVI Ferry Schedules & Tips

As long as you have your passport, it’s easy to travel between St. John and the British Virgin Islands via ferry. The international ferry dock in Cruz Bay is located inside the gate between the National Park Service dock and the Customs Building and Parking Lot. The gate entrance is on the main road between Mongoose Junction and Wharfside Village. Once inside the gate, the office is inside a little trailer, and the waiting area is just beyond, underneath a large tent.


There is direct ferry service from Cruz Bay to Tortola, Jost Van Dyke, Anegada, and Virgin Gorda. Other islands in the BVI can be connected to from Tortola.

Even though some islands only have direct ferry service from or to St. John on certain days of the week or month, you may still be able to get there by going through Tortola. You just have to be a little flexible with your schedule. And when you’re on vacation, that’s a little easier, right?

Ferries between Tortola / Virgin Gorda and Tortola / Anegada are at the Tortola Fast Ferry website.

Speedy’s Ferry Service also has some routes between Tortola and Virgin Gorda.
