A Sophisticated Rum Shop in Frenchtown

There’s a new restaurant in town by the popular restauranteur’s JP and Jess DeJongh, owners of the delicious Sabroso restaurant, and they are opening their doors for a grand opening Friday, May 21, 2021. de Frenchtown Bar is a brand new concept serving up rum and tasty beverages (of course) and local and American fare. The spot is in the old “La Petite Fenetre” which translates to “The Little Window” in French and was the oldest bar in Frenchtown known by everyone in the area.

Recently, the previous owner was looking to sell and JP and Jess jumped up at the opportunity immediately and were able to pull together this beautiful concept in record time. It was no easy feat though, the team worked tirelessly and passionately to get their dream spot done.

And it paid off. The vibe is island chic with stunning emeralds and decor throughout and it retains that welcoming and comfortable feel. The kind where you are craving to head over after a long day at work or on the weekend to just relax and enjoy yourself. They have had limited seating as a soft opening for the last couple of weeks and the feedback has been phenomenal, with people stating that they “could not be more impressed with the outcome”. de Frenchtown Bar is truly a place to bring your friends, kick back in the thoughtfully put together ambiance, and enjoy delicious drinks and food.

Q: What inspired you guys to get into the restaurant business? And what do you feel has made you a success?

A: JP: My wife inspired me, and for her, I think it’s her passion. We owe our success to the community and family. Especially the support after the hurricanes.

Q: What sparked your desire to create de Frenchtown Bar concept?

A: The previous owner of the location inspired us. We wanted to elevate the concept and vibes it always had.

Q: What was the hardest part of the process?

A: Managing both restaurants and ensuring the two have the necessary resources, staff and maintaining quality.

A: The process. Soleil Creative creating the blue print for us, a service we wish we had used with Sabroso, and watching other people’s reaction to our vision is priceless.

Q: What is your favorite dish? Drink?

A: Jess: Mine are the Coconut Sliders, I can eat those every single day. Jp’s favorite are the shrimp skewers with the Chimichurri sauce. And not only because we’re running a Rum Shop but our favorite cocktails is a simple and classic Rum and Coke.

Q: What do you want people to take away most from de Frenchtown Bar?

A: That it’s a place where you can come drink your favorite rum with great food and amazing  people! The formula: Good Food + Good People = Good Vibes.

Q: What do you cook yourself and your family at home?

A: Believe it or not, I hardly cook at home. If we aren’t at our restaurants we’re always eating out. Pizza is a family favorite!
